There’s no city in the world that comes out to cheer on its gay pride event quite like Sydney. On Mardi Gras night hundreds of thousands line the streets of Sydney to watch the colour, spectacle and outrageousness of the Parade.
This year’s Parade takes place on 27th February 2010, starting at approximately 7.45pm though we advise you to get there much earlier.
It’s not simply a great gay event. It is one of the most exuberant street celebrations you will see anywhere in the world and draws in tens of thousands of tourists every year.
This year’s Parade has the theme Mardi Gras’ History of the World and will take you on a sexy and bawdy rollercoaster ride through the ages, looking at gay history and shining a pink spotlight on some of mankind’s great figures and events.
Pay homage to the pioneers of the queer world as we take a trip down the memory lane that is Oxford Street. From gay culture of the modern world right back to ancient times, queer icons of all Ages will be marching together for one night only.
The History of the World theme will be brought to life along the Parade route by six stunning artworks created by Sydney artists Scott Elk and transferred to street banners. Find out more about these here.
